U.S. States Want To Ban Texting While Driving

A large number of countries and U.S. States now ban cell phone use (talking) while driving but it seems like an increasing number of drivers, mostly young drivers, are now sending text messages while driving. An even more dangerous behavior, considering how much concentration sending a text message requires.

So some states, such as Tennesse, Virginia and Arizona, are looking at the possibility to also ban driver texting. In Arizona, the proposed ban would include a $100 to $250 fine, but texting while driving would be “more affordable” in Tennesse, with a fine of only $60. Virginia is also considering a similar legislation.

There were recent cases where car crashes involved (or are suspected to involve) texting while driving, including an accident in the state of New York for which police suspected the driver lost control while sending a text message.
