Asus ZenFone V Live Pros & Cons Review

The Asus ZenFone V Live is a Verizon-carried smartphone that's apparently a budget-class little brother to the high-caliber ZenFone V. Leading its cons is the replacement of the original ZenFone V's eight-core 2.15GHz engine with a low-ranking 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor , which is even more underwhelming, knowing that a good number of other models in this class run on octa-core engines. It also halves the original's 4GB RAM down to only 2GB , although this is an acceptable RAM capacity, from an entry-level viewpoint -- at least around the time we were reviewing its pros and cons.

Joining this Live edition's other lifeless features is its so-so 5-inch HD-720p display on a mere 294ppi , which at least comes with a 2.5D-curved cover glass . It also comes with a dated 5-megapixel front-facing camera that tries to spice selfies up with its dedicated frontal LED flash . As for its rear cam, the ZenFone V Live plummets from its big brother's whopping 23-megapixel shooter to a 13-megapixel one, though 13 megapixels was right on par with budget-tier standards when it came out.

As for the brighter side of its array of pros and cons, the Live is loaded with 3000mAh of battery power , consequently promising up to 17 hours of talk time and a 25-day maximum standby period -- both pretty promising compared to the respective averages as of its release. It also comes with 16GB of memory expandable by up to 128GB , which sounds just about right for a budget-class 2017 Android. Additionally, it features a good old 360-degree fingerprint scanner implanted into its home button. Securing its specs in place is a metallic body aiming to give its otherwise run-of-the-mill features a high-end touch.

Summing up, even though it can't hold a candle to the ZenFone V, nor to any of the top models from Asus , for that matter, the Asus ZenFone V Live fits our definition of a passable phone for users looking for a high-stamina budget Android.
