Blackberry Z30 Pros & Cons Review

Picture of the Blackberry Z30, by Blackberry

We are happy that BlackBerry souped up its Z10. The Z30 now has a 5-inch display and an improved 8-megapixel camera (with 5-element optics). But the improvements come at a cost in weight, since the new version weights 170 grams! It also has a non-removable battery - but is it such a big deal considering how short the lifespan of a cell phone is nowadays?

On-paper Review score:

Cons (or Not-so-great Features):

Sub-standard selfie cam:

Nowadays, we expect more than only 2-megapixel fixed-focus (3x digital zoom) of selfie camera resolution.

Slower smartphone:

A year ago, this smartphone's on-paper performance would have been just fine, but by today's standards, the 1.7 GHz Processor, Qualcomm MSM8960T Pro processor with a RAM of only 2GB seems a little pale.

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we were not able to find information about its weight.

Pros:

NFC-enabled:

Use the Blackberry Z30 to buy things with your phone at NFC-compatible stores

Huge screen:

We are talking about an above-average screen, making it a phablet: 5 inches and a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels means about 10.68 square inches and an image sharpness of at least 293.58 dots per inch (DPI)!

High-definition (8-megapixel) camera:

It features a high-megapixel camera (8-megapixel) with the following options: Auto-focus, Camera, Movie Editor, Music, Picture Editor, Pictures, Video Chat, Videos.

Other notable features:

It has these special features: Accelerometer, Adjustable Screen Brightness, BlackBerry Balance Technology, BlackBerry Magnify, Documents To Go, Gyroscope, Print To Go, Scalable Fonts, Voice Input/output

HDMI port:

The HDMI port will be useful to watch HD (1920 x 1080 resolution) videos recorded with the Blackberry Z30 on an HDTV (HDMI cable might be sold separately).
