BLU's Joy Flex aims to bring joy to its elderly primary clientele by sporting a dedicated SOS button, connecting you to 911 assistance in case of emergencies at the press of a button. This safety-first clamshell phone's cons, however, include an unsurprising 32MB internal memory and only 24MB of RAM . Additionally, it sports a modest 2.4-inch 320 x 240 display , which is among the most-commonplace specs in the flip phone market as of its 2016 Q4 market entry.
Joining its emergency button in the pros club is the Joy Flex's 1400mAh battery capacity , which is significantly-hefty, considering that lots of its basic clamshell rivals settle for something around 800mAh only. As for imaging, it sticks to an ancient 0.3-megapixel aka VGA camera that at least comes with an LED flash doubling up as a torchlight .
Its other pros and cons include a leather back finish , obviously separating it from its rather mundane, plastic-shelled competitors. Moreover, it supports up-to-32GB memory cards , while a good number of comparable models only support 8GB cards -- some of them don't even have microSD card slots at all! Sadly, though, it only works with 2G GSM networks bands , even though several other basic phones come with 3G connectivity.
Further into our review of the Joy Flex, we caught an observably larger-than-usual keypad , standard Bluetooth support (v3.0), and an FM radio. Its 12.4mm body depth also sounds like a pro, though not a very significant one, since a couple of other BLU clamshells have 13mm depths.
With two SIM card slots -- a feature that we have come to expect from BLU devices -- rounding out its pros and cons, the Joy Flex makes for rather a decent purchase for those looking for a flip phone with user safety in mind.
