BLU R2 LTE Review & Pros And Cons

Picture of the BLU R2 LTE, by BLU

- Analysis by Christelle Nina

This smartphone's name might imply that it simply is the LTE-ready version of the BLU R2. However, it actually has several other pumped-specs that give it an edge -- not just over its much-simpler sibling, but over other rival models, as well. Of course, this wouldn't be a pros and cons analysis if we don't list down a couple of its bad points, so keep on reading to know more about that, too.

First off, we find it pleasing that BLU has decided to reach more into mid-range territory by giving this model 3GB's worth of RAM (although like what we have said in the R2 LTE's specs sheet, there's a 2GB version available, as well). However, it's almost regrettable to find that this much RAM has been paired with a less-impressive 1.3GHz processor, which only has four cores . Because of this, the added performance that could've been harvested from the RAM is hampered by the low-end CPU.

It seemed like this phone had reservations in upgrading its hardware, but its camera specs present an entirely-different case. With a 13MP camera gracing both its face and rear , it certainly has enough sales mojo to attract photography aficionados. Both cameras are also joined by their own LED flash . Weirdly enough, it records videos at a maximum resolution of only 720p -- resulting to its sole con in the imaging field.

Much like a lot of its same-brand cousins, this device boasts premium-looking aesthetics -- with a curved glass display and an aluminum unibody to boot. The presence of a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner completes the package. However, be aware that its body, when compared to similar models from other brands, is significantly-thicker at 9.6mm .

With these pros and cons, it's safe to say that BLU's foray into the mid-range market hasn't been disappointing at all. The phone isn't perfect, but it has its own merits that are bound to attract selfie fans (or photography-lovers in general) and those who are keen on having sophisticated-looking metal devices.
