BLU Studio G Mini Review of Pros And Cons

BLU's 2017-released Studio G Mini is a very unexceptional Android phone that it's pretty hard to ignore, being riddled with cons that were all but outmoded around the time of its market entry. In fact, many of its technical specs could earn it a spot in our list of senior-friendly starter phones .

First off is its low-key 4.5-inch display that suffers from a dinosaur-esque 854 x 480 (FWVGA) resolution and a mere 218ppi pixel density . To put it in perspective, even HD (1280 x 720) displays were already considered elementary as of August 2017. Behind its uninteresting screen is a sluggish-sounding dual-core (most other 2017 Androids use quad-core chips) 1.3GHz MediaTek 6570 processor coupled with a paltry 512MB RAM . Having said that, it does come with a dedicated Mali-400 graphics processor , although this pro is rather common among unlocked BLU smartphones.

Mini happens to be the perfect word to describe its imaging capabilities, with nothing but a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing sub-camera on board . Slapping an LED flash on both its cameras sounds like an appreciable effort from BLU, though. As for its other pros and cons, this 3G-only Marshmallow-sporting Android is outfitted with a matte-and-polished pattern combo that at least gives it a boost in terms of design. It comes with a decent (in this class) 8GB memory expandable by up to 64GB . It also offers dual micro SIM card trays , which a good number of entry-level shoppers place high up on their checklist of preferred phone features.

Compared to many other starter-class smartphones that came out in 2017 with respect to battery life, the Studio G Mini likely gets bullied, having only 1700mAh of power on board . At the time of writing, many of its competitors safely pass the 2000mAh threshold -- some even reach for as high as 2500mAh. With this little power, though, it weighs way less than the average smartphone, which came in at around 150g as of its release, at only 121 games .

Coming with an assortment of pros and cons that barely pass entry-level standards, the BLU Studio G Mini makes for a cheap option for users who just made the jump from a basic flip or bar phone to an Android smartphone.
