BLU Studio J5 Review of Pros And Cons

- Analysis by Christelle Nina

Right off the bat, the BLU Studio J5 distinctly sports less-impressive camera features compared to many other models at the same market tier. Its 5-megapixel rear camera also records videos at a maximum resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels -- an underwhelming figure given that 1080p recording seems to be the norm among its colleagues. In addition, the 2-megapixel selfie camera that it sports pretty much suffers the same fate.

Display-wise, its 5-inch 720p screen gives the user a 294 DPI pixel density to enjoy. This spec is not mind-blowing by any means, but it gives the Studio J5 a better standing relative to many other phones in this regard.

While it's unsurprisingly clad in an electrolyzed-metal housing , it lacks the sleekness of a thin phone. Being 9.6mm thick , it's discernibly-bulky for such a basic device.

With respect to the pros and cons of its hardware, the potential user is left to endure a regrettably-slow 1.0GHz processor speed . A RAM of only 1GB also seems out of place for such a device, as well -- given that many comparable models sport 1.5GB to 2GB in this department.

Its battery specs sit in a grey area. On one hand, 2300mAh's worth of power certainly is more "acceptable" than it is "promising", but given the simplicity of the Studio J5's features, this may not be regarded outright as a con, and almost (though with hesitation) as a pro.

While we have encountered a number of BLU phones that seem capable of giving the average budget buyer some bang for their buck, this pros and cons list makes it appear like the Studio J5 isn't one of them. Save for its metal finishing (which more and more low-cost phones are offering, by the way) and relatively-promising 294DPI display, most of its other specs fall short compared to many of the competition.
