BLU Studio J8 LTE Review of Pros And Cons

Compared to the plain Studio J8, the BLU Studio J8 LTE may sound more-interesting, obviously with the addition of full-blown 4G LTE connectivity , but several of its specs seem problematic for a budget-class 5.5-inch Android that came out in August of 2017.

For instance, its 5.5-inch interface settles for an unremarkable 1280 x 720 HD resolution and a mere 267ppi pixel density . It does feature BLU's trademark Infinite View screen technology , but it hardly makes up for the aforementioned low-key definition.

As for its pros, a 4G network adapter is not the only thing the Studio J8 LTE has over its 3G-only sibling. It also features a 16GB/2GB memory/RAM version , obviously dwarfing the original model's 8GB storage and 1GB RAM accordingly. Moreover, while it uses a similar low-end quad-core CPU running at only 1.3GHz (Mediatek MT6737), this LTE version scraps the J8's Mali-400 graphics chip for a slightly-more-advanced Mali-T720 graphics engine .

Making a comeback for the Studio J8 LTE is its rear-mounted fingerprint scanner , letting users secure apps or the phone itself through fingerprint authentication. It also brings back the original Studio J8's 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and 5-megapixel front-facing deputy cam, both of which sport their own dedicated LED flashes . Intriguingly-enough, though, BLU says that the Studio J8 LTE only captures HD-720p videos at best , whereas the 3G-only model records videos in a Full HD (1080p) maximum resolution.

Among its remaining pros and cons is a 2500mAh battery capacity , which, though not a disappointing match for its other technical features, is far from significant, by 2017 standards. More interesting than its battery, however, is the Studio J8 LTE's electrolyzed aluminum casing -- a rather common facet among BLU's low- and middle-class smartphones. That being said, portability is not its strongest suit, weighing in at 183 grams , while the average smartphone only weighed around 150 grams as of its release.

With the kind of pros and cons that it brings to the table, the Studio J8 LTE will not impress tech geeks and process-hungry users, but if you are in the market for a budget 5.5-incher with a flash-rigged selfie cam and a 4G LTE network reach, it might just fit the bill.
