The 5.5-inch Full HD Vivo 5R -- R for refresh -- is a revamped version of the Vivo 5 that slaps a one-touch fingerprint reader and an upgraded selfie camera (8-megapixel with LED flash) to the older phone's list of pros.

The Vivo 5R does not escape its base model's cons, however, since it still only supports up to 64GB microSD cards (32GB internal memory), despite lots of other high-end 2016 releases offering support for up to 128GB of top-up storage. Additionally, its 13-megapixel Sony-IMX258-sensor PDAF camera lacks a 4K video mode , which certainly would have made it more-appealing.

On the flip side, the rest of its specs take after the Vivo 5's high-caliber profile, including the 1.3GHz octa-core 64-bit processor , the 3GB RAM , and the DTS Surround Sound audio system . Additionally, it supports reverse charging , though its 3150mAh battery power seems a bit low for such a facet, especially when compared to some models under BLU's Energy series.

With a few nifty tweaks among its pros and cons, the BLU Vivo 5R likely ends up as a passable step-up phone for Vivo 5 owners, or even for the high-end smartphone shopper in general.
