The 2017 BLU Vivo 8L is a 5.3-inch mid-level (as far as its overall specs profile is concerned) smartphone whose crown jewel is a flagship-class 20-megapixel Super Selfie camera equipped with its own front-firing LED flash . Despite likely joining our list of the best selfie smartphones, however, the 8L's array of pros and cons does not quite make if a full-blown high-end device.

Its biggest con is probably its 5.3-inch display, knowing that it opts for an uninspiring HD (1280 x 720) resolution and comes with a very low -- by 2017 standards -- PPI (pixels per inch) count of only 277 . In comparison, many full-fledged high-end Androids safely pass the 400ppi mark. Despite not being that auspicious of a screen, though, it enjoys the protection of a curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3 panel .

Opposite its high-resolution selfie camera is a decent 13-megapixel rear-facing main cam with a Sony IMX258 sensor , which sadly forgoes 4K-2160p video-recording for a budget-class 1080p maximum video capture resolution. Fortunately, it does not take the low-budget route in terms of battery life, feeding off what BLU calls a Super Battery with 4000mAh of power to offer . Additionally, its 2-day promised usage time is on par with 2017 high-tier standards.

Its engine is accompanied by a hefty-enough 3GB RAM and a Mali-T720 graphics processor. For storage, it comes with only 32GB of on-board memory expandable by only up to 64GB , which is pretty underwhelming, coming from a phone with a whopping 20-megapixel front camera.

A couple other niceties include a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner coupled with an encrypted file management system as well as the MAXXAudio technology for sound optimization . With all that said, it's pretty obvious that the BLU Vivo 8L calls out to mid- and high-end Android shoppers who consider a phone's selfie capabilities as top priority.
