BLU Vivo XL3 Pros & Cons Review

BLU's Vivo XL3, the 2018 successor of previous wide-screen BLU smartphones of the same name, blends some middle-class pros with low-caliber cons like a sub-standard 1.3GHz MediaTek 6737 quad-core processor , which feels awkward, knowing that eight-core smartphones made up the majority of mid-range smartphones when it debuted. We also found its up-to-64GB-only external memory support off-putting, particularly when compared to the 128GB maximum top-up storage allowances of many other middle-class contenders that entered the market around the time of this technical review. Its 32GB inbuilt storage sounds appreciable, though, at least within the budget-tier smartphone stratum.

A couple of highlights to its mix of pros and cons include a passable 13-megapixel rear-facing primary camera with PDAF (phase-detection autofocus) as well as a relatively promising 13-megapixel selfie cam with its own front-firing LED flash and some beautifying software , the latter bringing to mind a few popular selfie-driven smartphones.

Its 3GB RAM also sounds reassuring -- for a phone running on its kind of processor, that is. As for its pros and cons on the security front, the BLU Vivo XL3 features both a facial recognition system and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner (Its fingerprint reader promises a 0.2-second device unlocking time), which are accompanied by an encrypted file management system.

Joining its specs is a 5.5-inch screen with a wide 18:9 aspect ratio , a widescreen format that was trendy among high-tier phablets when this model came out. Its display is furbished with a damage-resistant curved Gorilla Glass 3 cover glass , but it sadly sticks to an unimpressive HD+ (1440 x 720) definition . Having said that, its not-so-demanding display is powered by a 3000mAh battery rigged with a 5V/2A quick-charging system , promising to replenish its total capacity in under 1.5 hours (90 minutes) of charging.

This Vivo XL edition runs on the Android 8.0 Oreo platform. It also comes with two SIM card slots, which is a typical feature among unlocked BLU smartphones. LTE connectivity joins in as well, with a shiny metallic finish of either Gold or Silver tying everything together.

With all that said, the Vivo XL3 sounds like a feasible choice for budget Android shoppers who value battery life, multitasking, and selfies the most.
