Coolpad Defiant Pros & Cons Review

- Analysis by Christelle Nina

At its price range, the Coolpad Defiant faces some tough competition (like the Motorola Moto E4 and the ZTE Blade Spark, to name a few) to be the best semi-budget smartphone on the market. How do its specs fare in the grueling battle? Read its pros and cons below to find out.

First off, the Defiant's camera specs, well, defy expectations -- and not in a positive way. With a 5-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel sensor gracing the rear and the front, respectively, it fails to impress, resolution-wise. For some phones, shortcomings in terms of raw megapixel count are compensated for by offering an extra LED flash or a better video-recording resolution (usually 1080p and beyond). Such is not the case for this device, however, as it doesn't really attempt to justify the less-than-stellar imaging specs.

Performance-wise, the Coolpad Defiant steps it up. A 1.4GHz clock speed , courtesy of a quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor, and 1GB of RAM give it an edge versus many other similar models.

As for physical pros and cons, this device has evidently chosen to keep things to a minimum, design-wise. Unfortunately, its plain aesthetic is further downgraded by a 6.5-ounce and 0.4-inch-thick profile -- making it look and feel bulkier than the average smartphone.

Lastly, we touch the Defiant's battery-related specs. With 2450mAh's worth of power , it's able to offer an above-average talk time of 16 hours . Considering the lack of pizzazz in its cameras and the unimpressive quality of its 854 x 480 display , it's highly-likely that its battery is going to be one of its least-troubling specs.

In the end, the Coolpad Defiant is unfortunately not as cool as we would've hoped, but it's still not an entirely-bad phone. If performance specs and a dependable-sounding battery are all that you're concerned with, then this device can be a promising, no-frills budget buy.
