Coolpad Mega 3 Review & Pros And Cons

For a 2017 Marshmallow-running Android geared towards the middle-class market, which we will explain as we go over its specs in this analysis, the Coolpad Mega 3's triple-micro-SIM sounds like a mega pro, especially for those into juggling multiple phone numbers or carriers. Retaining the standard microSD card slot (for storage expansion) despite its three-SIM setup sounds nifty as well, although it only comes with 16GB of native storage and supports only up to 64GB memory cards -- lots of other mid-end competitors allow 128GB cards.

Also among its key selling points is the Mega 3's 8-megapixel selfie camera equipped with a dedicated front-facing LED flash , which sounds like an appreciable deputy cam for the 8-megapixel main camera sitting on its back side. That being said, the Mega 3 greets users with a not-so-mega 5.5-inch screen on a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution (HD) and a mere 267ppi pixel density . Coolpad also held back on the Mega 3's processing power, rigging it with a basic 1.2GHz quad-core processor aided by 2GB of RAM -- not at all the CPU we expected to support its triple-SIM capability.

As for power, we found its 3050mAh lithium-polymer battery pack satisfactory, though we say that with a grain of salt, given its 200-hour 3G standby time and 8-hour 3G talk time -- both way below-average as of its 2017 Q2 market entry.

Topping off this review of the Mega 3's pros and cons are its arc design alongside a couple of potentially-handy inbuilt software, including App Freezer , which stores unused apps to free up some of that much-needed RAM space.

As far as pros and cons are concerned, the Coolpad Mega 3 does not quite do its name justice, but for mid-range shoppers eyeing a passable selfie camera and some tri-SIM action, this budget-friendly 5.5-incher should do the trick.
