- Analysis by KJ David
As made clear by its technical specs, the Huawei Honor 6X puts a lot of effort into imaging and multitasking, but it slightly drops the ball when it comes to storage, with no more than 32GB of internal memory in tow . Sure, 32GB may sound decent by middle-class standards, but knowing that several rivals with comparable pros and cons are offered in 64GB variants, it winds up as a slight drawback in our book. That being said, it does support a passable 128GB's worth of external memory. Another potential turn-off is the 2.5-hour (150 minutes) charging time of its 3340mAh cell, which is significantly longer than even those of some full-blown big battery smartphones. Its battery pack does have its merits, though, such as the reassuring 2.15-day standard usage time and 70-hour maximum music playback time .
As for its selling points, the Honor 6X banks on a duo of 12- and 2-megapixel cameras on its back side, a pro it shares with some of the best camera phones on the market today. As a byproduct of having two distinct cameras on the rear, it features a wide aperture range (f/0.95-f/16) that lets users tinker with the level of focus they want in their photos. Sadly, it misses out on 4K (3840 x 2160) video-recording , which was quite popular when it came out. Instead, it captures only FHD-1080p videos at best.
Just like its predecessor, the Honor 5X , the 6X sports reasonable (in this class) 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD display, however, it houses more-advanced hardware pros than the older model's, namely, a 2.1GHz + 1.7GHz Huawei Kirin 655 octa-core processor and 3GB of RAM . It also retains the 5X's scratch-resistant 2.5d cover glass and metal chassis.
Right above its screen, the Honor 6X touts an 8-megapixel selfie camera that tries to make up for its so-so raw resolution through things like self-adaptive skin color detection and an inbuilt portrait touch-up software. For security, it is equipped with a rear-mounted fingerprint detector , while the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system skinned with Huawei's self-branded Emotion UI 5.0 rounds out its pros and cons.
Wrapping up this technical review, the Honor 6X has plenty of room for improvement in terms of charging time (its biggest con, for us) and storage, but with its dual camera system and high-tier hardware, it should hold its own versus other 2016 high-enders.
