Though a toned-down version of the flagship Mate 9, the Huawei Mate 9 Lite hits several high-end marks nevertheless, with 4GB's worth of RAM (a 3GB version is also offered) and a dual-rear-camera setup made up of 12- and 2-megapixel cameras leading its pros.

Unlike the plain Mate 9, this Lite version lacks microSD card support , which may be a huge con for multimedia junkies, though its 64GB maximum internal storage does not sound too bad. It also drops from its mother model's 4000mAh power cap to only 3340mAh , despite similarly rocking an eight-core CPU, particularly, a 2.1GHz + 1.7GHz Kirin 655 split-octa-core processor .

Just like the original model, the Lite comes with fingerprint user authentication and an 8-megapixel front-facing sub-camera , but it also settles for a 5.5-inch FHD-1080p display , while some of its high-end rivals feature QHD-1440p screens in comparison.

With a metal body encasing its pros and cons, the Mate 9 Lite makes for a passable alternative for high-end shoppers who find the Mate 9's specs a bit too much.
