The Huawei Y7 Prime is almost exactly like its base model, sharing most of its middle-class pros and cons. For starters, it brings back the Y7's mammoth 4000mAh battery pack , reaching up to 20 hours of continuous video playback and 15 hours of web browsing through Huawei's own power-saving technology -- the figures are based on the brand's controlled lab test results.

Its large battery will have a little more on its plate this time, however, since the Y7 Prime bumps the original model's 2GB RAM up to 3GB , while keeping its Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 eight-core processor . Keep in mind that it may join the octa-core market, but its 1.4GHz maximum clock rate places it somewhat on the bottom end of the tall octa-core ladder, considering that many other eight-core chips run at 1.7GHz or higher.

Apart from the upgraded RAM, the Y7 Prime also now features a hefty 32GB native memory (at least compared to its sibling's mere 16GB), which can be expanded by up to 128GB . Huawei also sneaked a fingerprint scanner into its list of specs, adding a slight boost in the security department, not to mention that such spec has grown to be a must-have facet for smartphones of its caliber and higher.
Most of its other pros and cons are similar to the Y7's, though, including its 5.5-inch HD-720p-only display (FHD-1080p seriously makes much more sense for its display size) covered by a 2.5D protective glass layer . Moreover, its screen suffers from a 267ppi pixel density , a rather common con among low-budget Androids. The Y7 Prime also still has a 1.25-pixel 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with Full HD video-recording and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) in tow. Although its main camera is not that promising, it safely hits our mid-range camera benchmark. For selfies, it still packs an 8-megapixel front-facing sub-camera with Beauty Mode and facial recognition, which we would take any day over the dull old 5-megapixel shooters sported by some of its middle-class competitors.

Tying together this big-battery Y-series edition's offering is the Android 7.0 Nougat ecosystem overlaid with Huawei's own EMUI version 5.1, which comes with features like Eye Comfort Mode (for filtering out eye-stressing blue light), among others. It is outfitted with a metal body and is offered in Gray, Silver, and Prestige Gold.
At the end of the day, the Huawei Y7 Prime does not leave its base model's middle-class market, but having twice the storage and 1GB more RAM are nice touches for a heavy-duty phone like itself.
