Jolla Review of The Pros And Cons

Picture of the Jolla, by Jolla

Jolla's operating system for its namesake smartphone may not be brand-spanking new (it is an offshoot of Nokia's Meego that was dumped for the Windows OS), but it still brings a few interesting things to the table. Christened Sailfish is an open OS that is compatible with the Android platform. It features The Other Half (a tool that uses the exchangeable back panel to automatically customize the phone's settings) and a gesture-based interface (the screen has no buttons - one uses gestures like swipe or pull instead). However, the sophistication ends there, for the Jolla's hardware is strictly mid-level. It has a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, a 4.5-inch 960 x 540 LCD display, an 8-megapixel camera (with a 2-megapixel front camera), 1GB RAM, 16GB of storage memory, and a 2100mAh battery.

To be sure, the Jolla already deserves praise for providing another alternative OS. But whether or not it has the chops to give the smartphone giants a run for their money still remains to be seen.
