Shortly after AT&T unwrapped the DuraXE, Sprint pitches the roughly-similar Kyocera DuraXTP, a robust (25.1mm thick, 163g heavy) rugged flip phone.
While it suffers from a con in the form of its 512MB memory (several other basic phones have 4GB of storage on board), the DuraXTP tries to make up for it with a microSD card slot for up to 32 gigs of external storage. Its main specs, however, are found externally, in the form of a water- and shock-proof shell (IP68, MIL-STD-810G) as well as a programmable side key , which comes preset for Sprint's Direct Connect Push-to-Talk service . This clamshell also features the Smart Sonic Receiver technology , promising clear in-call audio regardless of background noise -- a facet complemented by two frontal speakers.
Overall, the DuraXTP's pros and cons don't make it stand out from the rest of Kyocera's simple rugged handsets, but we did not see any major deal-breaker either.
