Motorola ATRIX HD Review of Pros And Cons

Picture of the Motorola ATRIX HD, by Motorola

The ATRIX HD is not your average smartphone, with impressive (and at times rare, e.g. Kevlar body) features. Its 4.5-inch HD Colorboost display and 8-megapixel camera are noteworthy. And while its 1500Mhz dual-core processor can certainly take on even the most demanding of tasks, it pales in comparison with quad-core CPUs of some high-end smartphones (Galaxy S III for example).

On-paper Review rating:

Let's Look at the Cons:

Higher-than-average radiation:

The Motorola ATRIX HD's SAR rating of 1.34 w/kg is among the highest, on a scale that goes as high as 1.60. Even if the health risks associated with cell phone radiation are not proven, it's worth knowing that there are many phones that emit less radiation than this one.

Ordinary selfie cam:

In 2024, we would expect more than just 1.3-megapixel of selfie cam resolution.

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we were not able to find information about its weight.

Pros:

Rugged:

It is described as more resistant to water, dust and shocks.

Swype:

With Swype, you can "type" text just by gliding a finger over the letters one would normally press.

4.5-inch screen is larger than usual:

It features a rather large, 4.5-inch display, with a 720 x 1280 resolution.

Memory can be expanded Up to 32 GB:

The ATRIX HD doesn't come with an included memory card but it supports Up to 32 GB in memory expansion, which is convenient to store pictures and video clips shot with the included 8-megapixel camera.

Interesting camera:

Superior camera resolution - 8-megapixel - with these features: Auto-focus, Image Stabilization, Zero Shutter Lag,Flash, Brightness, Panorama, Multi-shot, Scene lighting, Effects, Resolution, Zoom.

HDMI connector:

The HDMI port will be useful to watch HD (1920 x 1080 resolution) videos recorded with the Motorola ATRIX HD on an HDTV (HDMI cable might be sold separately).
