This Force Edition of Motorola's second-generation Moto Z packs a lot of sophisticated pros that we expected out of a Motorola flagship, though we also caught a few cons along the way.
Kicking things off is its Moto Mods compatibility . Moto Mods are essentially slap-on accessories that accentuate particular features of the device. Among the most-popular mods as of this write-up are the fish-eye Moto 360 camera for 360-degree shots, the JBL SoundBoost 2 speaker mod, and the Moto Gamepad that transforms the phone into its own game controller.
Joining its lead specs is the brand's signature Mobile Computing System, consisting of a Snapdragon 835 2.35GHz octa-core processor , a large 4GB RAM , and Adreno 540 graphics . Motorola added Natural Language and Contextual Computing processors to the bargain as well -- high-end performance enhancements that are present in many other premium models from the brand.

Although this Moto Z2 variant sports an amateurish (in terms of raw pixel resolution) 5-megapixel-only selfie camera , its rear camera setup, composed of dual 12-megapixel IMX386-sensor cameras provide a stark contrast. Its double camera system (Similar setups were all the rage around the time of its market entry) enables features like depth detection/effects , 4K (2160p) video-recording at 30fps , and slow-motion video capture at up to 240fps . A Color Correlated Temperature (CCT) dual-LED flash as well as a combination of phase-detection and laser-aided autofocus join its imaging pros and cons as well.

For its interface, the Motorola Moto Z2 Force opts for a high-caliber 5.5-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) POLED screen with a ShatterShield protective finish . We have mixed feelings about it, though, since it only comes with 2730mAh of battery power -- the Moto Z2 Play comes with 3000mAh, and even it falters versus the 4000mAh (or higher) battery packs of some of its upscale rivals. Its 64GB-only maximum internal memory might also be problematic for multimedia junkies, but at least it supports a gigantic 2TB's worth of microSD storage .

With a bundle of pros and cons that can go toe-to-toe with those of some top-of-the-line 2017 smartphones, the Moto Z2 Force sounds like a force to be reckoned with.
