Oppo R11 Plus Pros & Cons Review

Much like its base model, the Oppo R11 Plus banks heavily on a rare dual-rear-camera setup comprising of a 20-megapixel f/1.7 main sensor and a 16-megapixel f/2.6 deputy sensor , a pro that packed most of the punch for the original R11. As concomitants for its flashy camera, the R11 packs the Qualcomm Spectra Image Signal Processor that enables up to 2x dual-camera zooming and up to 10x digital zooming, among other functions. 4K video-recording joins its imaging specs as well, though we would have been surprised to find anything less.

Another desirable similarity between the R11 and this larger variant is the presence of a mammoth (in terms of raw pixel resolution) 20-megapixel selfie camera , which outstrips the front cam resolution of lots of other high-end 2017 models by a quite a huge margin. Sadly, it still does not come with a dedicated front-facing LED flash -- pretty much a no-brainer for a high-caliber selfie smartphone, don't you think?

As for its differences from the plain R11, the R11 Plus stretches its base model's 5.5-inch display to a full 6 inches , while bringing back its choice (as of its release) Corning Gorilla Glass 5 cover glass . Don't fall off your seat just yet, however, since the R11 Plus retains the unexceptional -- by flagship phablet standards -- Full HD 1080p display resolution , despite 2K-1440p screens being widely available in the upscale market as of its 2017 Q3 release. Moreover, it suffers from a mediocre 368ppi pixel density (the R11 has a 401ppi definition), although this was the trade off for reaching such a large screen real estate.

Heading over to its pros and cons under the hood, the R11 Plus features a flagship-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon split-octa-core engine running at 2.2GHz + 1.8GHz coupled with a gigantic 6GB RAM . It also boosts the R11's mild 3000mAh power cap to 4000mAh , a much-needed upgrade, considering the difference in screen size. Accompanying its massive battery is Oppo's signature VOOC Flash Charge technology, promising two hours of talk time under just five minutes of charging .

The rest of its pros and cons include an underwhelming 64GB-only internal memory , which is not quite what we expected from a phone with 20MP sensors all over the place, and a decent up-to-128GB maximum external memory support . It also features a fingerprint scanner embedded into its physical home button. While it retains the R11's metal shell and micro-arc design , the R11 Plus is not offered in the limited edition Heat Red finish , so Gold, Rose Gold and Black are your only choices.

All-in-all, even though we think that a few tweaks would have made tech junkies like us salivate (if it hadn't already), the R11 Plus sounds like a favorable buy for those looking for a large-screen phablet with premium-caliber cameras.
