Likely to land it a spot among the top camera smartphones of 2016, the Oppo R9s pros and cons try to seduce us with a 16-megapixel f/1.7 camera with dual PDAF (an upgrade over standard phase-detection autofocus) as well as a second 16-megapixel camera up front , which has almost become a tradition among recent Oppo phones, though we can't help but wish that it had some sort of front-facing flash system .
Even though its FHD-1080p-only screen resolution winds up as a con, knowing that some of its high-class competitors tout 2K-1440p displays, the R9s's 5.5-inch AMOLED screen is toughened by a Gorilla Glass 5 finish -- the latest mutation of Corning's damage-resistant cover glass as of this write-up. Underneath its display are a Snapdragon 625 eight-core CPU clocked at 2GHz , the 4GB's worth of RAM (the mandatory dress code for any wannabe flagship smartphone in terms of RAM), and 64GB of native memory expandable by a comfortable 256GB .
The R9s's pros also include a six-string antenna line architecture , which Oppo claims to reel in stronger connections compared to the more-conventional thick-white-band design. Moreover, it features a hydrophobic-membrane fingerprint reader , for an enhanced success rate when the user's fingers are moist (according to Oppo), and a 3010mAh battery rigged with the brand's signature VOOC Flash Charge technology . The 3010 seems comfortable, but our mAh-to-display ratio metric reveals that it comes quite shy of Google XL's and Samsung's Galaxy s7 Edge's figures in that department, as illustrated by our histogram:
With a metal casing wrapping up its pros and cons, the Oppo R9s is bound for high-end shoppers who prioritize cameras above all other specs.
