Samsung Ativ S Pros & Cons Review

Picture of the Samsung Ativ S, by Samsung

Samsung's first Windows 8 smartphone seems ready for entertainment and business. Some of its noteworthy features include a 4.8-inch HD display, business-class security features, and a big 2300mAh battery. Its design is closely similar to that of the high-end Galaxy S III, but some of its main specs are only mid-range. For instance, It only has a dual-core processor and a 1GB RAM.

On-paper Review score:

Let's Look at the Cons:

Is there an HDMI port?:

The Ativ S can record high-resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) videos. Bravo! But we couldn't confirm whether it had an HDMI port or not. HDMI, which lets you connect to an HDTV, is not essential, but would be great on an HD phone.

Potentially less apps:

The operating system (OS), Windows Phone 8, is not yet as popular as Android or the iPhone's OS (iOS). Therefore, keep in mind that there will be less apps available for this phone.

Below-average selfie cam:

Nowadays, we expect more than just 1.9-megapixel of selfie cam resolution.

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we were not able to find information about its weight.

Now, the Pros:

4.8-inch display is larger than usual:

It has a rather large, 4.8-inch display, with a 1280 x 720 resolution.

Large onboard memory:

It includes a large internal memory (16000MB), but it may sometimes be more interesting to buy a phone with an included memory card instead, since the memory card can then be reused in a future cell phone.

8-megapixel camera:

Superior photo resolution - 8-megapixel - with these features: Focus modes (Normail, Macro), Anti-Shaking, White balance, ISO, EV, Effects, Auto contrast, Resolution, Bing vision, Zoom, Photo editing, Brightness.
