The Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini Prime is an entry-level phone designed for smartphone newbies and basic day-to-day use. Headlining its pros and cons list is a quad-core Spreadtrum SC9830 processor that runs at a clock speed of 1.5GHz 
, which is relatively-good at its market niche. Its 8GB native memory and 1GB RAM are pretty standard, but it has the advantage of being able to hold up to 128GB of additional storage (compared to its colleagues, which usually host smaller memory expansion limits).
Its 4-inch TFT display has a rather-unusual resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, making its horizontal resolution even smaller than the more common 854 pixels found in other smartphones 
. It also offers a color mode of 262K colors , something that may be considered outdated at this point.
Coming in with this mini-sized phone is an equally mini-sized power tank. Its 1500mAh battery is easily dwarfed by those offered by comparable models. Despite having equally-low-profile specs and features, this much battery power still results to below-average 3G browsing and talk times , which clock in at six and eight hours, respectively.
One would probably expect that this lack of a big battery may lead to a thinner profile -- especially since it is slated primarily as an "everyday" type of a device. However, at 10.8mm, it packs up more bulk than most other phones .

Its 5-megapixel camera is also below-average, but such a resolution still seems acceptable at its price range. The VGA sensor sitting at the front , however, is pretty outmoded now that similarly-priced options (like the LG K3, for instance) provide selfie cams of at least 2-megapixels.
From this pros and cons review, it appears as if the J1 Mini Prime would excite only those who are the most basic of users -- people who wouldn't think twice about trading in camera and display specs in favor of dependability in terms of processing speed and memory.
