Released silently by Samsung early in 2018 (It was first spotted on the brand's Vietnam website), the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro 2018 builds on its direct predecessor, the J2 Pro 2016's entry-level mix of pros and cons, but caters to the same pragmatic smartphone shoppers as the older model.
Some of its biggest cons include the almost deal-breaking qHD 960 x 540 screen resolution 
on its 5-inch Super AMOLED display, which we find questionable, especially coming from a 2018-released smartphone -- heck, its 2016 ancestor even rocked an HD 1280 x 720 definition. Having said that, its screen is not a total setback, since it has a relatively-high 100000:1 contrast ratio 
that promises to optimize the user's viewing experience, at least as far as a low-end Android can. Another off-putting spec is its humble 1.5GB RAM capacity and unnamed (as of this data-driven review) quad-core 1.4GHz processor , the latter running slightly-slower than the 2016 edition's 1.5GHz chip.
At the helm of its selling points is the Galaxy J2 Pro 2018's 16GB internal storage memory that is twice the capacity that we are used to seeing on smartphones with meager 540p displays. Moreover, it supports a maximum of 256GB of external memory -- one of the highest top-up storage allowances available on the budget Android market when it came out. Stamina also seems like a strong point for this starter-class model, with its 2600mAh removable battery promising up to 18 hours of 3G talk time and up to 60 hours of continuous music playback .
Joining the best selfie smartphones is but a dream for the J2 Pro 2018, since it sports an old-fashioned 5-megapixel-only front-facing camera . On the contrary, its primary 8-megapixel camera, which captures videos in Full HD (1920 x 1080) sounds like an appreciable (by entry-level standards) effort from Samsung. Also part of its mix of pros and cons are the Private Folder app for hiding away delicate user information/files and the Dual Messaging Account feature that lets users set up two different accounts on the same Messenger. Sadly, some typical (as of its release) specs like fingerprint recognition and NFC (Near Field Communication) are nowhere to be found .

So, versus most of its entry-level rivals, the Galaxy J2 Pro (2018) might have a slim advantage storage- and battery-wise, but it's winds up as an introductory Android phone nevertheless.
