Sonim XP5520 BOLT Pros & Cons Review

Picture of the Sonim XP5520 BOLT, by Sonim

Aside from its apparently extreme durability and resistance against various elements, the Sonim XP5520 BOLT also features useful tools, particularly its Push-To-Talk technology, an omni-directional and noise cancelling microphone, and a LED flashlight, which could be helpful in work environments or outdoor. That said, it is bulky compared to other phones, with a 25mm thickness.

On-paper Review score:

Let's Look at the Cons:

Very high SAR rating (radiation level):

According to our specifications researcher, this phone features a SAR (radiation) rating of 1.35 watts per Kg. Considering that the SAR scale goes from 0 to 1.60, that's higher than average. It is still within the safe limit, but there are other Sonim phones with a lesser radiation.

Low on memory:

We are not very impressed by the size of the storage memory Sonim put in the XP5520 BOLT. On a phone like this, we would expect more space to store images, videos and more.

"Back to basics":

Curb your enthusiasm. This is only a very simple phone.

Basic integrated camera:

You won't win any photography contest, given the Sonim XP5520 BOLT's 2-megapixel camera.

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we were not able to find information about its weight.

Pros:

Rugged:

It is billed as more resistant to water, dust and shocks.

Basic camera but decent options:

Though the 2-megapixel camera is only basic, it at least offer a few advanced control options, such as: Capture mode (Normal, Continuous shot, Add frame), Scene modes (Automatic, Night mode), Image size, Flash, Timer, White balance, Effects, Storage, Image quality, Time stamp, Shutter sound, Anti-flicker
