ZTE Blade A3 2019 Review of Pros And Cons

- Analysis by KJ David

Released alongside a couple of other budget-class smartphones, namely, the A5 2019 and the A7 2019, the Android Go ZTE Blade A3 2019 is peppered with some dinosaur-esque cons, such as a 1.4GHz quad-core Unisoc SC9832E processor coupled with a paltry 1GB RAM . Those specs obviously pale in comparison to the basic eight-core engines and at least 2GB RAMs offered by several other low-budget contenders featured here on Phonerated.

Its under-the-hood pros and cons also include a 2000mAh-only battery whose raw capacity obviously will not be plugging it into our list of the best high-stamina phones -- even 2500mAh of power already sounded so-so in the low-end market as we were writing this.

Storage-wise, it offers 16GB of on-board storage extendable by up to 128GB , which we flagged as a slight pro, at least compared to the 8GB-only storage memories offered by a few slightly-older models. Keep in mind, though, that a few competing budget Androids have twice as much native memory, at 32GB. Also, its aforementioned Android Go operating system (Android 9.0 Pie) is specifically designed for low-end phones -- it has stripped-down versions of basic apps to conserve phone memory and it comes with a native data manager for browsing.

When it comes to imaging, this Blade model is ironically dull, offering an 8-megapixel fixed-focus primary camera and an even more low-caliber 5-megapixel selfie cam, still suffering from a fixed focus capacity.

The A3 2019 sports a 5-inch FWVGA+ (960 x 480) display , which, as of this review, was all but a telltale sign of an essentials-only smartphone. Also joining in is a standard 4G-LTE network reach, Bluetooth 4.2, and a casing of either Blue or Black.

On-paper Review rating:

First, the Cons:

Slower smartphone:

A year ago, this smartphone's on-paper performance would have been just fine, but by today's standards, the 1.5GHz Unisoc SC9832E processor with a RAM of only 1GB seems a little pale.

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we could not find its weight information.

Pros:

Rugged:

It is promoted as more resistant to water, dust and shocks.

It supports the wireless NFC protocol:

NFC can be used for electronic payment systems and other uses.

Quad microprocessor:

Not only does it have a 1.5GHz processor clock speed, but it also has 4 cores.

Huge screen:

We are talking about an above-average screen, making it a phablet: 5, 1.4GHz inches and a resolution of 960 x 480 pixels means about 10.01 square inches and an image sharpness of at least 385 dots per inch (DPI)!

High-definition (8-megapixel (fixed focus)) camera:

It features a high-megapixel camera (8-megapixel (fixed focus))

Decent-resolution selfie cam:

The selfie cam resolution seems just about average.
