ZTE Blade A512 Pros & Cons Review

ZTE's Blade A512 is not exactly the sharpest of 2016 mid-range Androids, but it does have some pros up its sleeves, the biggest one being its 13-megapixel rear camera resolution , separating it from some of its closest Blade series relatives, which settle for 8- or 5-megapixel cameras only. Its 7.6mm thickness (or should we say thinness?) , as opposed to the roughly 9mm average as of this write-up, sounds like a nice touch as well, especially when your name is blade.

That being said, the Blade A512 has some unimpressive specs (ergo, cons) as well, one of which is its 5.2-inch HD-720p-only screen , knowing that a few other mid-range alternatives tout Full HD (1080p) interfaces. Additionally, it does not go beyond a 2540mAh battery capacity , which we fear has the potential to leave you incommunicado on a Saturday night if you are the talkative type, while the A610, one of its closest siblings, boasts 4000mAh's worth of power.

As for its hardware pros and cons, the A512 banks on a quad-core Snapdragon 415 processor clocked at 1.4GHz that comes off as a perk to us, particularly versus some of its series-mates' slower-running four-core chips. It passes up on a high-end (at least 3GB) RAM, though, opting for a more-sober 2GB capacity , which kind of tames the value of its being a tad faster than its sibling, knowing how RAM helps performance as well. Heading over the storage department, the Blade A512 hits just the right mark for its category with its 16GB internal memory as well as 128GB maximum external memory support .

A couple of the A512's remaining specs include standard (as of its 2016 Q3 market entry) 4G LTE Cat 4 connectivity and a 5-megapixel selfie camera , which we have come to expect from middle-class smartphones as of this analysis .

Wrapping up its bundle of pros and cons are the Android 6.0 Marshmallow platform and a casing of either black, white, or pink. That leaves us few choices, other than concluding, in an admittedly surprisingly focused way, that the ZTE Blade A512 calls out specifically to shoppers who are in the hunt for a relatively sleek middle-class smartphone with not-too-basic cameras.
