ZTE Maven 3 Review of Pros And Cons

- Analysis by KJ David

Definitely not a device for the smartphone maven, this third installment to ZTE's prepaid Maven series features a list of specs populated by some old-fashioned cons. Among its most deal-breaking facets are its 2-megapixel-only selfie camera , which sounds prehistoric, given the rise of 13-megapixel-and-higher selfie shooters around the time of its market entry, and 5-inch FWVGA (854 x 480) TFT display -- lifted directly from the pros and cons list of its direct predecessor, the Maven 2 . At the very least, its screen is furbished with a scratch-resistant 2.5D glass finish , although AT&T nor ZTE itself did not indicate the specific material as we were reviewing its feature set, so we take this pro with a grain of salt.

Under the hood, the ZTE Maven 3 runs on a basic 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor alongside no more than 1GB of RAM , which does not really surprise us, given the bigger drawbacks mentioned earlier. We are also not impressed with its paltry 2070mAh battery capacity , a figure that goes up to 2115mAh, if we go with AT&T's spec sheet. Having said that, it does score an 18-hour (1080 minutes) talk time , which is notably-higher than the 13-hour average as of its release. Also, for a phone with this kind of hardware setup, the Maven 3's 4G LTE connectivity is a substantial selling point, especially considering that it cost something south of $50 as of this analysis.

The rest of this AT&T-carried (Feel free to check out other AT&T smartphones here , by the way) starter-class Android's pros and cons include a mediocre 5-megapixel rear-facing camera that only captures HD-720p videos at best. At the very least, it comes with standard autofocus and an LED flash. For storage, it comes with a typical (in this Android class) 8GB memory that can be expanded by up to 32GB only .

The Best ZTE Phones As Of April 2024

Compared to most other low-end prepaid contenders, the ZTE Maven 3 is pretty unremarkable, but its target users are those who want a practical non-techie smartphone anyway.
