The M2 Play from ZTE's Nubia subgroup of smartphones is a potential mid-range contender, as will be shown in the following pros and cons.

Laying it out for the performance-minding folks out there, the M2 Play's RAM size stands at a favorable 3GB . The minor setback here is that its octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, while running at a max clock speed of 1.4GHz , trails slightly behind many of its rivals.

Finding a 720p resolution on its display isn't entirely bad, either -- but to consider this amount of pixels on a mid-range phone good is somewhat a stretch. Add this to the fact that the 5.5-inch screen size is trekking the phablet boundary, and a rather-lacking 274DPI sharpness arises.

Its rear-facing 13-megapixel camera , having a slightly-higher resolution than the iPhone 7, is arguably good. The same cannot be said for the front camera, with it being stuck at 5 megapixels , as a lot of cheaper options already offer the same selfie-shooting power.

Its design carries a certain appeal, mainly due to the metal finish and the 2.5D curved glass that envelopes the display. The fingerprint scanner mounted on the front is always a plus, as well. However, it's quite thick (but not unbearably so) at 7.9mm . This may be excused by the sturdy-sounding 3000mAh battery that takes care of things from the inside.

The Nubia M2 Play clearly has a defined list of pros and cons. To summarize, its good points include its battery, design, rear camera, and RAM. While its shortcomings lie mainly in its display, thickness, and selfie camera resolution. With that said, while it does have a few features that can be improved to increase its competitiveness, it definitely has enough good points versus many of the competition to attract some mid-range hunters in today's Android market.
