ZTE nubia N1 lite Pros & Cons Review

Probably one of the most unimpressive models to come out of ZTE's nubia sub-brand, the 2017 nubia N1 lite is a huge downgrade from the original nubia N1, which entered the market back in 2016. That seems to be the point, however, since a lot of its technical specs target a middle-class clientele, doing away with its mother model's upscale market.

Its cons are led by an unpromising 5.5-inch HD (1280 x 720) A-SI display , which is a demotion from the original model's Full HD screen, not to mention that it came out in 2017, at a time where tech junkies like us have grown allergic to HD-only definitions on more than five inches of screen space. ZTE does throw in a 2.5D glass finish , though, making it sound a wee bit sturdier versus some other mid-end alternatives. For hardware, it replaced the N1's high-end eight-core CPU and 3GB RAM with a humble 1.25GHz quad-core 64-bit MediaTek 6737 processor and only 2GB of RAM , obviously to drag its price point even lower.

As for its pros and cons elsewhere, the nubia N1 lite's camera duo seems to be one of its strongest selling points -- that is, when seen from a middle-tier perspective. At the back, it touts an f/2.0-aperture 8-megapixel camera festooned with a 4P optical lens and a dual-LED flash . Up front, an 84-degree-wide-angle 5-megapixel 3P camera takes care of selfies, accompanied by its own front-firing soft-light flash .

Alongside the features mentioned above, the ZTE nubia N1 lite is also home to a multi-function fingerprint sensor located right under its rear camera, promising a 0.3-second response time. At the time of its release, fingerprint recognition was all the rage, so having a fingerprint scanner for unlocking applications or protecting delicate files on board sounds pretty handy.

For the nubia N1 lite's power supply, even though it misses out on its base model's colossal 5000mAh power cap, its 3000mAh battery pack is still satisfactory by mid-range standards. The fact that it promises up to 1440 minutes of talk time and a maximum of 500 hours on standby -- both well above the averages when it came out -- definitely helps as well. However, the same cannot be said of its storage capabilities, settling for only 16GB of memory that can be expanded by only up to 32GB .

With an edge arc design and the Android 6.0 Marshmallow platform rounding out its pros and cons, the nubia N1 lite ends up as a wallet-friendly alternative for users who are cautious about imaging and battery life.
