The 2017 Asus Zenfone V, a Verizon-exclusive Zenfone that caters to the carrier's upscale clientele, largely depends on a sophisticated camera and flagship-caliber hardware pros.
For starters, even though it misses out on the popular (as of its release) dual-lens camera technology , which is a con, in a sense, its whopping 23-megapixel raw camera resolution leaves us with little room to complain. Additionally, its forenamed rear cam is bedecked with several high-class imaging features, including a 4K-2160p maximum video-recording resolution and a TriTech autofocus system , the latter being an amalgam of standard contrast autofocus, laser-aided focusing, and phase-detection autofocus -- a combination that does not often come by in this Android class. Compared to its rear camera, however, its 8-megapixel f/2.0 selfie cam sounds rather modest, especially since a good number of tantamount models tout 13-megapixel (or higher) selfie cams.
Popping its lid open, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 14nm quad-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz is at the helm of the Zenfone V's processing department. Sure, it is up against many chic eight-core devices, but, bundled with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and Adreno 530 graphics , its high-ranking four-core engine is by no means sluggish. Also earning our definition of fast is its LTE Cat 6 connectivity of up to 400Mbps , outstripping what a good number of high-class models reach. As for power, it relies on a passable 3000mAh battery coupled with the Asus BoostMaster technology, promising to refill up to 60 percent of its total capacity in under 37 minutes .

Covering its hardware pros and cons is a 5.2-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) screen that shies of a 2K-1440p definition , but still comes with appreciable display specs. These include its Tru2Life technology for enhanced outdoor readability and glove touch support . Moreover, it is furbished with a Corning Gorilla Glass cover (unspecified version) and a smudge-resistant oleophobic coating.
On the storage front, the Zenfone V does not boast anything more than a 32GB-only inbuilt memory , which we think could have used a boost, given the 128GB-and-higher storage caps offered by some of its Zenfone siblings. That being said, its 256GB microSD card support is right on the money for a 2017 high-ender. Topping off its pros and cons is a fingerprint scanner for device and app security.
So, while we would have loved to see a couple of full-fledged premium facets in its spec sheet, the Zenfone V nonetheless ends up as a solid option for Verizon's high-end customers, particularly those with a classy camera in mind.
