BLU Advance A5 Plus LTE Review & Pros And Cons

Despite still conforming to entry-level smartphone norms (at least as of this specs-driven review), the unlocked BLU Advance A5 Plus LTE features a few more pros versus its little brother, hence its Plus name tag. Having said that, this Plus edition suffers from roughly similar cons as its sibling, headed by a far-from-advanced quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek 6737 64-bit processor , which could turn out to be a deal-breaker for some shoppers, knowing that some of the newest unlocked Android phones from BLU are powered by eight-core engines. At the very least, its four-core engine is accompanied by 2GB of RAM -- twice what the plain Advance A5 LTE has. A Mali-T720 graphics processor, which sounds satisfactory, given its other processing components, is also on board.

Although it jumped to a larger screen (It extended the A5 LTE's 5-inch facade to 5.5 inches), the Advance A5 Plus LTE still winds up in the so-so end of the smartphone spectrum resolution-wise, settling for an HD (1280 x 720) resolution, whereas some of the best BLU smartphones on the market tout Full HD (1920 x 1080) definitions.

As for the favorable (in this Android class) elements of its mix of pros and cons, the A5 Plus LTE features a 13-megapixel FHD-video-recording primary camera equipped with standard flash and autofocus -- a much-needed upgrade over its sibling's 8-megapixel-only rear cam. Additionally, it now has an 8-megapixel LED-flash-rigged selfie camera where a mere 5-megapixel front cam once sat. Sure, its forenamed selfie shooter cannot hold a candle to those sported by the best selfie smartphones, but coming from a budget-tier unlocked Android, it's a surefire pro.

The Advance A5 Plus LTE takes after some of its entry- and mid-level BLU cousins by sporting the blend of an all-metal (aluminum) housing and a curved glass touch panel , while a 16GB internal memory , which is double that of its base model's, is on storage duties. Sadly, it only supports up to 64GB microSD cards , while a few tantamount models allow a maximum of 128GB of external space.

Some of its finishing touches include standard 4G connectivity (both LTE and HSPA+ bands, though the latter is often considered 3.5G) and a humdrum Black-only finish.

To rehash, the BLU Advance A5 Plus LTE's technical pros and cons tell us that it is a 5.5-incher for budget Android shoppers who can live with second-rate hardware, as long as they get a respectable camera duo.
