The BLU Vivo XL5 is a big brother to the X5 when it comes to technical pros and cons, although it falls within the same budget-tier category hardware-wise. Just like its 5.7-inch sibling, this 6.3-inch Vivo model runs on an eight-core 1.6GHz-only processor and comes with only 3GB of RAM , despite a good number of its eight-core contemporaries running on at least 2GHz chips.

Also, it comes with 64GB of on-board memory and it supports no more than 64GB of top-up storage , which sounds oddly low, since a few similarly-specked phones offer 128GB or even 256GB external memory ceilings.

Among its biggest pros is its 4000mAh battery power , which is a way more than the 2800mAh offer by the X5 -- check out some of the best big-battery smartphones here. We also find its leather backing appreciable, knowing that aesthetics is not really that big of a priority among mid-level smartphones as we were reviewing its specs.

Perched on its rear end is a passable dual-camera comprised of a 13-megapixel main lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor that's primarily for portrait shooting. It also has a respectable 13-megapixel selfie camera, although its lack of a front-firing LED light winds up as a slight con to us, considering that a few lower-specked phones listed here on Phonerated offer flash-rigged front cams.

Also part of its feature set is a wide 6.3-inch 19:9 screen that's sadly marred by a measly 1520 x 720 (HD screen resolution and a 267ppi-only pixel density . In comparison, most of the best wide-screen phones of its time tout 1080p screens and score at least 400ppi. It is also equipped with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, two nano SIM card trays, and a standard LTE network adapter.

In sum, the Vivo XL5's mix of pros and cons makes it a decent choice for budget smartphone shoppers who are cautious about battery life and screen space.

On-paper Star rating:

Cons:

Apparently no HDMI connector:

It is all very well that the BLU Vivo XL5 can record high-resolution 1920 x 1080 videos, but we were disappointed not to find any evidence of the XL5 featuring an HDMI port (which is convenient to watch HD videos on your shiny HDTV.)

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we could not find its weight information.

And Now, the Pros:

Very large screen:

The screen is larger than usual, making it a phablet: 6.3 inches and a resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels means about 15.36 square inches and an image quality of at least 267 dots per inch (DPI)!

The memory can be expanded up to 64GB:

The BLU Vivo XL5 is not sold with a memory card but it supports up to 64GB of memory expansion, which is convenient to store photos taken with the built-in 13-megapixel (combined with a 2-megapixel depth sensor) camera.

High-resolution (13-megapixel (combined with a 2-megapixel depth sensor)) camera:

It features an advanced built-in camera (13-megapixel (combined with a 2-megapixel depth sensor))

Interesting selfie cam:

The 13-megapixel selfie camera offers an interesting resolution.

In the box:

The package comes with the following accessories: Screen protector, Silicone case, Earbuds, SIM key, Sticker.
