- Analysis by KJ David
Primarily aimed at young adults and budget smartphone shoppers, the 2019 Cubot J5 is an entry-level smartphone whose pros and cons include a 3G-only network capability that obviously puts it on the back foot versus its 4G-enabled contemporaries. Additionally, it settles for some low-class hardware specs only, including a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor and no more than 2GB of RAM .
Adding to its cons is a modest 16GB internal memory , which can at least be expanded by a maximum of 128GB -- a lot of its entry-level rivals support only up to 64GB of top-up memory.
The J5 is not without a couple of appreciable pros, though, one of which is the Face ID feature carried by its low-class 5-megapixel selfie camera . Facial recognition was somewhat trendy in the low-end Android category around the time of this data-driven Phonerated review. Furthermore, relative to its aforementioned hardware composition, the J5's 2800mAh removable battery sounds passable to us, especially since some models powered by tantamount processors do not even reach the 2500mAh mark. Note, though, that a few models within its price group lug 3000-4000mAh batteries.

The J5's feature set also includes a 5.5-inch screen whose 18:9 aspect ratio seems to have been inspired by those of some flagship-class phablets and wide-screen models, although its 960 x 480 FWVGA+ definition and 196ppi-only pixel density score make sure that its stays within low-end smartphone boundaries.
Also among its pros and cons are an uninspiring 8-megapixel camera coupled with a 500mA LED flash, dual nano SIM card slots, and a dedicated notification light. Topping things off are its Android 9.0 Pie operating system and a finish of either Blue, Black, or Gradient.
All said, Cubot's J5 is an introductory-class smartphone tailored to basic Android users and those in search of a somewhat well-rounded low-cost smartphone.
On-paper Review rating:
Be it because Cubot didn't list the information on its web site or because we were unable to find it, but we don't know the SAR rating (radiation level) for the J5, so we cannot say how close it is to the acceptable limit.
