Huawei Honor 8C Pros & Cons Review

Picture of the Huawei Honor 8C, by Huawei

- Analysis by KJ David

An offshoot of the Honor 8 designed for those eying a mid-level smartphone, the Honor 8C's cons include a wide (It has a 19:9 aspect ratio ), yet low-key 6.3-inch IPS display that settles for a 1520 x 720 HD+ sharpness only and scores a measly 269ppi pixel density count . In comparison, some of the best phablets available as we were writing this specs-driven review did not sport anything less than 1080p interfaces.

Another slight con is the fact that it touts an 8-megapixel fixed-focus-only selfie camera , although it is spruced up by a soft light flash, which allows users to choose between three brightness levels, depending on the ambient lighting conditions. On the other end, it rocks an AI-powered 13- plus 2-megapixel dual rear camera -- a rather typical 2018 pro that brings to mind some of the foremost photography-driven smartphones listed here on Phonerated, at least insofar as it comes with a multi-lens setup.

Its hardware pros and cons consist of a middling Snapdragon 632 eight-core processor that's unlike to sit alongside the best octa-core models on the market, seeing that its clock speed peaks at only 1.8GHz -- some of the leading eight-core models of its time use chips that are clocked in at 2.2GHz or higher. Its engine is accompanied by a passable 4GB RAM, while a 64GB internal memory takes charge of multimedia storage (Huawei also ships a variant with only 32GB of on-board memory). Speaking of memory, its native storage can be expanded by a maximum of 256GB , whereas several tantamount models stick to up-to-128GB external memory allowances only.

Powering its aforementioned features is a hearty 4000mAh battery promising up to 50 hours (3000 minutes) of continuous music playback and up to 12.5 hours of video playback. Huawei also claims that its battery pack provides up to 2 days of mixed usage on a single charge.

Also among this Honor model's pros and cons is the somewhat standard (among 2018 mid-range Androids) combination of a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a facial recognition system, with dual nano SIM card slots sitting alongside its external memory card tray.

Available in Black and Blue, the Huawei Honor 8C caters to middle-class Android shoppers who value battery power and screen space the most.

On-paper Review score:

Cons (or Not-so-great Features):

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we were not able to find information about its weight.

Pros:

Very low radiation level:

It features a SAR rating of only 0.54 w/kg, on a scale of 0 to 1.60 w/kg. Phones with such a low SAR rating are exceptional

Faster microprocessor:

The speed of its Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 microprocessor (1.8GHz) with 8 cores is among the fastest in the current market.

Huge screen:

The screen is big, making it a phablet: 6.3 (actual diagonal is 6.26 inches) inches and a resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels means about 15.36 square inches and an image sharpness of at least 269 dots per inch (DPI)!

13-megapixel (combined with a 2-megapixel sub-cam) camera:

Superior photo resolution - 13-megapixel (combined with a 2-megapixel sub-cam)

Average-resolution additional cam:

The selfie camera resolution seems just about average.
