A revamped version of the Y7 Pro 2018, the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 features a few more pros than its slightly-older predecessor, but its cons still keep it within the mid-end Android category. For starters, despite its 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 engine being an upgrade over the 2018 edition's 1.4GHz-only chip, it nevertheless shies of the engines powering the best octa-core smartphones featured here on Phonerated -- most models on that list run on chips clocked at roughly 2.5GHz. Furthermore, its 3GB RAM count sounds rather lackluster, at least compared to the 4GB or 6GB RAMs offered by several competing mid-rangers.

The Y7 Pro 2019's drawbacks also includes the 720p-only definition (1520 x 720, to be exact) of its otherwise expansive 6.3-inch 19:9 dewdrop-notch display -- dewdrop, by the way, simply means that it has a tinier screen notch than several of its phablet competitors, enabling it to squeeze in a few more pixels.

This 2019 follow-up model comes with no more than 32GB of internal memory , but blusters with a 512GB memory expansion ceiling that brings to mind some full-fledged flagship smartphones. Also, its pros and cons are powered by a 4000mAh battery , which is a sizable upgrade over the 2018 model's 3000mAh-only cell.

Imaging-wise, the Y7 Pro 2019 banks on a 13- plus 2-megapixel dual-lens primary camera whose photography perks include AI-powered shooting modes and hardware-level bokeh shooting (background blurring for portrait shots). It also features a 16-megapixel front-facing camera , which easily overshadows the 2018 version's mere 8-megapixel selfie cam.

This large-screen mid-ranger loses its ancestor's rear-mounted fingerprint scanner , but comes with Huawei's Face Unlock 2.0, promising a faster device unlocking time than the previous iteration. Wrapping up its list of pros and cons is the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system merged with the brand's own EMUI 8.2 platform.

So, as far as our review of its specs is concerned, Huawei's Y7 Pro 2019 caters to those eying a middle-class phablet that prioritizes selfies and multimedia over everything else.
