LG Zone 4 Review & Pros And Cons

- Analysis by KJ David

Tailored to users who are inclined towards practicality, the Verizon-carried LG Zone 4 is packed with entry-level pros and cons. Leading its drawbacks are camera resolutions that are by no means worth calling home about -- it has an 8-megapixel rear cam and a 5-megapixel-only frontal camera . In comparison, a decent number of its budget-tier competitors reach 13-megapixel rear cam resolutions and have 8-megapixel selfie shooters. The Zone 4 won't be zoned out of the imaging contest that easily, though, since its imaging specs include things like Capture+ and Low Light Shot , which are staple facets among the best LG phones on the market. Its low-resolution front camera also comes with gesture-based shooting and Selfie Light , a makeshift frontal flash that brightens selfies by illuminating the entire display during the shot.

Speaking of display, it is fitted with an inauspicious 5-inch 1280 x 720 screen with a TFT architecture that's a con, since TFT is one of the cheapest screen types out there. It does, however, sport a tempered glass layer for extra scratch resistance. Behind the scenes, it has 16GB of native memory that can be expanded to a mammoth 2TB , a top-up storage capacity that obviously belonged to the premium smartphone zone as of this review of the Zone 4's pros and cons -- check out some actual premium-class smartphones here, with their generous storage capacities. It also comes preloaded with LG's Smart Cleaning application, letting users keep track of phone memory usage as well as battery performance.

Joining its storage memory under the hood is a basic 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor and a 2GB RAM , the latter of which ends up as a pro in our book, given the number of miserable entry-level smartphones that settle for measly 1GB-only RAMs.

Also part of the Zone 4's low-caliber offering are a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and the typical (among phones of this caliber) combo of Wi-Fi calling and HD voice . Standard 4G LTE network connectivity is on board as well.

Powering all the aforementioned features is a 2500mAh battery whose self-attributed scores, such as a 395-hour standby time and a 15.4-hour talk time, just about passed the average marks with the Zone 4 came out.

To rehash, the the LG Zone 4 stays within entry-level Android territory, but it's not without a few attractive features, the biggest of which is its generous external memory allowance.
