Undoubtedly a little brother to Oppo's 2018 F7 flagship model, the Oppo F7 Youth's biggest con is the fact that it replaces the F7's whopping 25-megapixel selfie camera, which was among the most-ambitious ones as of this Phonerated write-up (Get to know the best phones for selfies here), with old-fashioned 8-megapixel f/2.2 front camera .

Additionally, it lowers both the F7's 6GB RAM and 128GB memory counts to 4GB and 64GB accordingly , despite retaining the AI-ready Helio P60 2GHz + 2GHz dual-cluster eight-core processor , which, despite not putting the Youth alongside the fastest phones on the market, sounds like an adequate engine for a 2018 6-incher.

Heading over to its display, the F7 Youth touts a 6-inch LTPS screen with an FHD+ (2160 x 1080) resolution and a wide 18:9 aspect ratio , the latter having gained some strong mainstream footing as we were reviewing this model's pros and cons, although the 16:9 setup was still more conventional then. Also, while its 13-megapixel main cam resolution sounds uninspired compared to those of the best photography-focused phones available, its AI technologies , which include AI scene recognition and Oppo's self-branded Beauty Technology 2.0, makes it sound passable.

Sitting alongside its aforementioned processor in the engine room is a 3410mAh battery , which does not quite pique our interest, knowing that a few closely-comparable models lug 4000mAh cells. As for security, the F7 Youth does away with a standard rear-mounted fingerprint scanner , instead offering a user facial authentication system through its front camera. This Oppo model, by the way, comes with dual nano SIM card trays and a microSD card slot for up to 256GB's worth of top-up memory .

It is offered in Moonlight Silver, Solar Red, and Diamond Black, the latter variant donning a diamond-like back pattern. Its pros and cons are topped off by the brand's ColorOS 5.0 Android 8.1 overlay.

So, as far technical specs are concerned, the F7 Youth is a blend of mid- and high-end components for shoppers who want to dip their toes in the river of AI-aided imaging.
