Plum Flipper Review of Pros And Cons

A revamped version of a similarly-named Plum flip phone that came out way back in 2012, the 2018 Plum Flipper caters to those eying a nostalgia-inducing clamshell phone or senior users, just like many other senior-friendly phones listed here at Phonerated. Although Flipper 2018 would be a more precise name, we're sticking with just Plum Flipper for now, since the brand treats this version more as a replacement than a sequel -- Plum even gave it the older phone's product ID (D105).

Similar to many of its basic phone rivals (candybars, clamshells, and slider phones with comparable selections of pros and cons fall into this category), the Flipper sports a mundane 2.4-inch TFT 320 x 240 display . It also comes with no more than 32MB of RAM , which is a typical RAM capacity among elementary call-and-text phones.

The Flipper's on-board memory is limited to only 32MB , which pales in comparison to the on-board storage memories offered by a few slightly-more-competitive flip phones. That said, its support for up to 32GB's worth of extra storage sounds like a solid pro, considering that a lot of similarly-specked basic phones only allow up to 8GB or 16GB of top-up memory.

Going back to its cons, the Plum Flipper comes with no more than 600mAh of battery power , promising up to 4 hours (240 minutes) of continuous talk time and a 200-hour maximum standby time on one charge -- a few other clamshell alternatives that came out around the time of this review offer somewhere around 1200mAh of raw power. Fortunately, the Flipper comes with two SIM card slots , which is an outright selling point for any phone in this category, although some might argue that having two SIM card trays makes its low power capacity even more problematic.

Joining its pros and cons is a basic 1.3-megapixel camera , which obviously won't turn heads, knowing that some tantamount phones feature 2- or even 5-megapixel cameras. It does, however, come with essential phone specs, including a flashlight, an MP3 player, and an FM radio. It dons either a classic Black finish or a Gold one.

To rehash, the Plum Flipper is a dual-SIM, essentials-only flip phone for senior users or those looking for a secondary phone that won't break the bank.
