A little brother to the Studio Mega 2019 in terms of screen real estate, the 5.5-inch BLU Studio Mini offers almost exactly the same set of pros and cons as its 6-inch sibling, consequently nailing itself to the budget-tier Android category. While it features a phablet-esque 18:9 aspect ratio , its 5.5-inch screen is far from impressive, especially when taking into account its meager 720p-only resolution and low-class pixel density score of only 293ppi .

Its rather disgruntling specs also include a 32GB internal memory that can be expanded by only up to 64GB , which sounds awfully low compared to the 64GB or even 128GB maximum internal memories of a few other entry-level contenders that came out around the time of this data-driven review -- some models within its category even support up to 256GB of top-up storage.

Setting those cons aside, this Mini edition's 1.6GHz eight-core processor sounds tolerable to us, knowing that some of its budget-class rivals stick to old-fashioned quad-core processors only. It is accompanied by a so-so 2GB RAM and a passable 3000mAh battery .

When it comes to photography, this BLU phone's 13-megapixel LED-flash camera sounds rather mundane when pitted against those of the best photography smartphones on the market. On the flip side, its 8-megapixel LED-flash-equipped front cam makes for a welcome pro, since not a lot of low-class smartphones featured here on Phonerated couple their selfie shooters with full-blown LED flashes.

The Studio Mini's pros and cons also include the Android 9.0 Pie operating system, standard 4G-LTE network connectivity, and dual SIM card slots. It is plastered in a classic Black finish, probably to underscore its not-too-flashy feature set.

On-paper Review rating:

First, the Cons:

Unknown SAR rating:

Despite our efforts to find SAR (radiation) information for this phone, we didn't find it, which is sad. How can we know how much radiation this phone generates?

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we could not find its weight information.

Pros:

Quad microprocessor:

Not only does it have a 2GHz processor clock speed, but it also has 4 cores.

Very large screen:

The screen is larger than usual, making it a phablet: 6.1 inches and a resolution of 1280 x 600 pixels means about 14.3 square inches and an image quality of at least 293 dots per inch (DPI)!

High-resolution (8-megapixel (combined with two 2-megapixel sub-cams)) camera:

It includes an advanced built-in camera (8-megapixel (combined with two 2-megapixel sub-cams))

Decent-resolution selfie cam:

The selfie cam resolution seems just about average.
