Xgody's 2019 Mate RS is a budget-class smartphone (It was pegged at 65 dollars as of this review of its pros and cons) that drops the ball when it comes to connectivity, selling for a measly 3G-only network reach , despite 4G-LTE already being a staple smartphone facet when it hit the market. Furthermore, it sticks to a 1.3GHz four-core processor and a paltry 1GB-only RAM , which make for an ancient-sounding hardware combination -- several other low-specked 2019 models run on eight-core engines coupled with at least 2GB of RAM.

Still on its cons, the Mate RS offers only 8GB of on-board storage and supports a measly 32GB's worth of external memory . In comparison, Many of its rivals in the low-end unlocked smartphone category start out with 16GB of native memory and allow up to 128GB or extra storage.

Heading over the rest of its entry-level specs, the Xgody Mate RS touts a 6-inch IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio that brings to mind the screens of some of the best phablets listed here on Phonerated. Sadly, however, it sticks to a 960 x 480 resolution only , which does not sound that crisp, even coming from a sub-$100 smartphone.

When it comes to imaging, the Mate RS's pictures point to a triple-lens camera , which obviously winds up as a strong selling point, relative to the rest of its features. Also on board is a 5-megapixel front camera that's accompanied by a frontal LED flash , which we do not often get from phones of its caliber.

This Xgody model's pros and cons are powered by a 2800mAh battery that we consider somewhat passable, taking into account its undemanding processor components and low-resolution display. Rounding things out is the Android 8.1 Oreo OS and a coating of colors like Pink and Purple.

To rehash, the Mate RS is an entry-level smartphone for users eying a low-cost smartphone with a large display.

On-paper Review score:

Let's Look at the Cons:

Ordinary display specs:

We like that the Xgody Mate RS has a 6-inch display, but a resolution of only 960 x 480 pixels results in barely 178.77 dots per inch -- compare this to the the Samsung Galaxy Series (210+ DPI).

SAR rating info not found:

It may be because the manufacturer didn't publish it or because we didn't find it, but we don't have the SAR rating (radiation level) for the Mate RS, so we cannot say how close it is to the legal limit.

Slower smartphone:

A year ago, this smartphone's on-paper performance would have appeared nice, but compared to recent smartphones, this 1.3GHz MediaTek MTK6580 processor with only 1GB of RAM seems a little pale, knowing how recent smartphones boast multi-core, 2+Ghz processors with more than 1GB of RAM.

Unknown weight:

It's disappointing that we were not able to find information about its weight.

Now, the Pros:

Quad-core processor:

Not only does it clock at 1.3GHz, it is even quad-core.

Average front cam:

The selfie cam resolution seems just about average.

Included accessories:

The Mate RS comes with: Screen protector, Case.
