Despite being an overall upgrade of the plain Note 8, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro suffers from a few questionable cons, the biggest of which is the mere 2.05GHz top speed of its otherwise appreciable Helio G90T gaming processor. By the way, its aforementioned engine runs on two large clusters clocked at 2.05GHz and six smaller ones that run at 2GHz. Its hardware specs also include an ARM Mali G76 MC4 that we find tolerable for a gaming smartphone like itself, although we cannot say the same of its 6GB RAM count , if only because a few other high-specked phones featured here on Phonerated pack at least 8GB. A 4500mAh battery is on board as well.

Its biggest pro over its mother model is the whopping 64-megapixel primary lens headlining its ambitious quad-lens primary camera -- the other three lenses being an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 2-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. It delivers AI photography alongside the 4-in-1 Super Pixel technology that promises an output of 1.6 microns. It captures slow motion videos at 960fps and standard 4K-2160p videos at 30fps. Among its other pros and cons is a promising 20-megapixel front-facing camera that just about lines up with those of some of the leading selfie phones available as of this on-paper review.

Compared to its four-lens camera, the Note 8 Pro's 6.53-inch screen does not sound that premium-class, particularly because it opts for a 1080p-only resolution , instead of going for a flagship 2K (1440p) sharpness. That being said, features like a Gorilla Glass 5 cover glass, a 500nit peak brightness level, and HDR display still make it sound passable.

Tying together its pros and cons is the Android 9.0 Pie OS overlaid with MIUI 10, which tops it off as a fitting choice for those who love both mobile gaming and photography.
