- Analysis by KJ David

The ZTE Blade A5 2019 is, in essence, a rather blunt smartphone when it comes to pros and cons, targeting budget-cautious users with modest specs like a 5-megapixel-only fixed-focus front-facing camera and a 2600mAh battery pack , the latter likely to be bullied by those of the best big-battery smartphones listed here on Phonerated -- 3000mAh was our sweet spot for budget Androids as we were writing this.

Still on its downsides, this Blade A edition runs on a middling two-cluster eight-core engine (SC9863A) clocked at 1.6GHz + 1.2GHz , despite most other octa-core contenders available as of this technical review using at least 2GHz processors. Also, it comes with only 2GB of RAM , which obviously flounders in comparison to the 3GB capacities offered by a few tantamount models. For those who do not really multitask that much, a 1GB-only version is available as well.

This budget phone is not all about cons, however, since its 5.45-inch HD+ (720p) 18:9 display winds up as a pro in our book, knowing that many other models within its price group stick to the old-fashioned 16:9 screen solution. It also features the Android Go ecosystem, which is a version of Android 9.0 Pie designed to augment the phone's performance, being made up of lighter, stripped-down versions of essential Android applications. Its OS also has native features for conserving phone storage and monitoring mobile data consumption when browsing.

Its other features include an 8-megapixel primary camera with standard autofocus, 4G-LTE network connectivity, and Bluetooth 4.2. For storage, it comes with 16GB of expandable on-board memory, which, judging from the rest of its pros and cons, is nothing to complain about. It is offered in Blue and Black.

All that said, this 2019 edition of ZTE's Blade A5 model caters to shoppers who are looking for no more than an essentials-only Android smartphone and those eying a cheap backup phone to a higher-specked model.

Let's Look at the Cons:

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we were not able to find information about its weight.

And Now, the Pros:

Some innovations:

It lines up with a few high-class imaging smartphones with its 16- plus 8-megapixel dual-lens main camera.

Rugged:

It is trumpeted as more resistant to water, dust and shocks.

NFC touch-less technology:

NFC is becoming increasingly important for electronic payment systems and other uses.

Quad microprocessor:

Not only does it have a Quad 1.6GHz (+ Quad 1.2GHz) processor clock speed, but it also has 4 cores.

Huge screen:

The screen is big, making it a phablet: 5.5 (actual diagonal size is 5.45 inches) inches and a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels means about 12.1 square inches and an image sharpness of at least 432 dots per inch (DPI)!

High-resolution (8-megapixel) camera:

It includes a superior-resolution camera (8-megapixel)

Decent-resolution selfie cam:

The selfie cam resolution seems just about average.
