ZTE Nubia Z18 Review of Pros And Cons

ZTE's Nubia Z18 is an upscale large-screen smartphone that prioritizes performance and imaging more than anything else. That notwithstanding, though, our thorough review of its pros and cons reveals a couple of potentially off-putting specs. For starters, its 6-inch display sticks to a 1080p-only FHD+ definition , despite some similarly-sized high-end models boasting QHD/QHD+ (1440p) facades. Additionally, it does not support memory expansion , which means that users are pretty much stuck with its 128GB or 64GB (depending on the variant) UFS 2.1 native memory.

For a phone with its kind of hardware pros, which we'll get to in a bit, the Z18's 3450mAh battery capacity sounds rather underwhelming, especially since the fastest Androids featured here on Phonerated usually pack at least 4000mAh of raw power. Furthermore, its 8-megapixel-only selfie camera winds up as a con in our book, at least compared to the 16-megapixel (or higher) selfie cams offered by some of its contemporaries.

Jumping over to its selling points, this high-end Nubia model is powered by Qualcomm's flagship-class Snapdragon 845 2.8GHz eight-core engine coupled with a massive 8GB RAM , both of which line it up with many other 2018-released flagship wannabes. By the way, don't forget to pop open our list of premium-class 8GB-RAM smartphones here.

Also on board is an AI-powered dual-lens primary camera consisting of a 16-megapixel main lens and a high-resolution 24-megapixel deputy lens. Its imaging perks include the NeoVision 8.0 software, AI scene recognition, and optical image stabilization. Its pros and cons also include ZTE's self-branded Maverick Voice 2.0 mobile assistant that's native to its Nubia UI 6.0 platform, which is based on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system.

Offered in Nebula Red, Extreme Night Black, and a Starry Night collector's edition, the ZTE Nubia Z18 caters to multimedia junkies who want a phone with some auspicious photography and performance perks.
