ZTE Overture 3 Review of Pros And Cons

The ZTE Overture 3 is the third installment (obviously) in ZTE's Overture series that serves the same entry-level smartphone market as both its predecessors. Just like the first two models, this Cricket-carried Overture model's list of pros and cons open with several low-caliber drawbacks. Among these is its 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm MSM8909 processor , which is at least accompanied by 2GB of RAM . In comparison, some of its starter-class cousins under Cricket Wireless use 1.3GHz quad-core engines, but settle for sub-standard 1GB RAM capacities only.

We also found the Overture 3 a bit off-key in terms of stamina, with its low-capacity 2115mAh battery scoring middling talk and standby times of 13.7 hours and roughly 13.5 days correspondingly. Moreover, it settles for a 5-inch 854 x 480 TFT display that screamed low-end as of this specs-based review.

Luckily, its screen is not totally a con, since its comes with a scratch-resistant finish that was still considered a welcome pro in the introductory Android department when it came out. Additionally, it comes with a soft-touch-patterned backing that at least distinguishes it from the miserable pile of low-end smartphones outfitted with mundane glossy polycabonate finishes.

Its selling points also include a 16GB internal memory , if only because a lot of its entry-level competitors offer only 8GB of storage, although something more than a 32GB top-up memory allowance would have been nice as well . Joining the mix is HD voice , promising to reduce background noise and enhance the overall audio quality for voice calls, an M3/T3 hearing aid rating, and 4G LTE connectivity -- check out some of the newest 4G phones here.

Also part of its mix of pros and cons are two low-class cameras that capture HD (1280 x 720) videos at best. At the back, it touts a 5-megapixel rear-facing LED-flash camera that's at least enabled for vertical and horizontal panorama shots . Sitting up front is a 2-megapixel selfie camera that cannot even hold a candle to the selfie cams of a lot of other entry-level smartphones that entered the market at around the same time -- see for yourself in the graph below:

With that said, the ZTE Overture 3 may not sing some very high notes, but it does offer a respectable 16GB inbuilt memory and 2GB of RAM, which we do not see everyday from introductory smartphones like itself.
