Compare The BLU Vivo 5 vs BLU Vivo XL

Officially launched during the CES 2016, the Vivo 5 and the Vivo XL were two upmarket 2016 openers from BLU, both of which sport 5.5-inch HD (1280 x 720) displays and generally-similar specs lists. That being said, even though there are more similarities than differences between these two Lollipop-sporting mid- to high-end Android phones, we caught certain disparities when we compared them in terms of physique as well as hardware composition.

So, having a hard time choosing between the BLU Vivo 5 vs the BLU Vivo XL? This thorough specs comparison might help you come to a decision.

Performance

So far, we've covered the BLU Vivo XL's differences vs the BLU Vivo 5 externally. Now, we look inwards, particularly, in the hardware department.
Both phones operate on a MediaTek MT6753 64-bit eight-core engine running at 1.3GHz. Both also feature a Mali-T720 graphics processor, which we often stumble upon when strolling around the mid-and high-end smartphone classes. However, the Vivo 5 ends up closer to some of the fastest Android phones as of 2016, lugging 3GB's worth of RAM. In comparison, the Vivo XL only has 2GB of RAM to work with, which not only makes its overall performance potential less-appealing, it also makes the Vivo XL likely less-effective in handling heavy multitasking compared to its 3GB-RAM sibling.
All that said, both these 5.5-inchers are powered by 3150mAh battery, so it looks like this one's only a minor loss for the Vivo XL.

Physical Features

First off, size. While we mentioned earlier that both the Vivo 5 and the Vivo XL sport 5.5-inch HD-720p displays, which are identical down to the scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3 finish and pixel density of 267ppi, the Vivo 5 favorably wins this bout, seeing that it is considerably-smaller, with dimensions of 151.9 x 74.6 x 6.9mm. In comparison, the Vivo XL measures 155.2 x 82.2 x 7.5mm.
For most users, the key difference here would be body depth (6.9mm vs 7.5mm), since a slimmer frame usually goes hand-in-hand with higher-tier technical specs -- not to mention that almost everyone will prefer carrying around a slender smartphone, right? While we are at it, feel free to check out our list of the thinnest smartphones as of 2016.
To rehash, the BLU Vivo XL loses versus the BLU Vivo 5 in terms of size, with its bulkier frame, but it does come with a design element that could tip the scales in its favor...

BLU Vivo 5 vs BLU Vivo XL: Our Conclusion

So, when it comes down to a spec-by-spec comparison between the BLU Vivo 5 vs its BLU Vivo XL brother, here are our two cents on how you should decide:

  • Considering its slimmer body, higher RAM (3GB), and twofold internal memory of 32GB (huge difference storage-wise), the Vivo 5 seems like the overall best choice for a high-end Android shopper like yourself, but...
  • if you are looking for a cheaper alternative that comes with nearly all of the Vivo 5's specs, with a liquid metal coating on top, the slightly-stouter, Vivo XL may be your match.
