Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra Review & Pros And Cons

Picture of the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra, by Alcatel

Alcatel markets the Idol Ultra as "the thinnest smartphone in the world," and at 6.45mm, this claim might just be true. Feature-wise, this Android-powered device is a mix of average to high-end specifications, such as its 4.65-inch HD touchscreen and its claimed talk time of 960 minutes (16 hours!), but with only an 8-megapixel camera. On the other hand, the slim form factor is probably the reason why some advanced features seem to be missing, like 4G LTE and a memory expansion slot.

On-paper Star rating:

Cons (or Not-so-great Features):

Is there an HDMI port?:

The Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra can record high-resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) movies. Bravo! But we couldn't determine whether it had an HDMI port or not. Granted, HDMI (which lets you connect to your HDTV), is not an absolute necessity, but it seems like a desirable feature on an HD phone.

Sub-standard selfie cam:

In 2024, we would expect more than only 1.3-megapixel of selfie camera resolution.

Is there a memory expansion slot?:

According to our research, it doesn't feature any memory expansion slot.

Slower smartphone:

Not too long ago, this smartphone's processing specs would have appeared nice, but compared to recent smartphones, this 1.2GHz MT6577+ Dual-core processor with only 1GB of RAM looks a little pale.

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we were not able to find information about its weight.

Pros:

4.65-inch display is above average:

It boasts a larger-than-average, 4.65-inch display, with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

Large onboard memory:

It includes lots of internal memory (13300MB), but it may sometimes be more interesting to buy a phone with an included memory card instead, since the memory card can then be reused in a future cell phone.

High-definition (8-megapixel) camera:

It includes a superior-resolution camera (8-megapixel) with the following options: Digital zoom.

Other notable features:

It has these special features: Accelerometer, G-sensor, Proximity Sensor, Wi-Fi Direct
