Yes, the Ascend Mate7 (2014) is the direct follow-up to the Ascend Mate2. And it appears that Huawei justifies skipping four other generations with the Mate7's near-premium offering. Its performance is what attracted us the most, as Huawei mixes 1.8GHz and 1.3GHz quad-core processors with a 230MHz complementary engine, summing up to 8+1 CPU cores - as Huawei puts it. Its battery capacity is also a huge leap for the high-end smartphone department, rated at 4100mAh along with some energy-saving perks as well. Perhaps 4K video recording (instead of 1080p) and a QuadHD display (instead of FHD) would have secured it a premium-end shelf. But all that said, we might still see this IFA release from Huawei knocking off a few other high-end phablets.
