Huawei Ascend W1 Review of The Pros And Cons

Picture of the Huawei Ascend W1, by Huawei

Huawei's first Windows Phone 8 smartphone boasts some pretty interesting features, including the Andreno 305 graphics processor and a 4-inch IPS touchscreen with the OGS Touch Panel technology, which is claimed to improve the viewing experience. Other specs are average and did not exactly impress us. The RAM is only 512MB, the camera is only 5-megapixel and, 4G technology seems to be missing as well.

First, the Cons:

Is there a built-in HDMI port?:

The Huawei Ascend W1 can record HD (1280 x 720 pixels) clips. Awesome! But we couldn't determine whether it had an HDMI port or not. Granted, HDMI (which lets you connect to your HDTV), is not an absolute necessity, but it seems like a desirable feature on an HD phone.

Newer smartphone platform:

Since the Huawei Ascend W1 uses Windows Phone 8, a less widespread operating system, you may experience the frustration of not finding apps compatible with your phone.

Unknown radiation level:

We were unable to find SAR (radiation level) information for this phone.

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we could not find its weight information.

And Now, the Pros:

High talk time:

The manufacturer-rated talk time of 480 minutes is among the longest-lasting. Even if talk time ratings are not necessarily measured the same way by each manufacturer, this is still an indication that the Huawei Ascend W1 will likely last more than other handsets.
